Why is this woman smiling?
Flaming terrorist defender lawyer and believer in the violent overthrow of capitalism, Lynne Stewart, was just sentenced to all of 28 months in prison for assisting her infamous client Omar Abdel-Rahman pass information to his co-jihadists. The sentence may have been mitigated due to her age and health. No matter. It's enraging that such considerations might apply in a case of such import, one with such far-reaching political and media impact, her occasional, warm-and-fuzzy grandmotherly traits notwithstanding.
Note the placards in the above pic. Stewart receives a trial, a mild sentence, and is Protest Queen for a Day in the mainstream media. Yet her supporters liken her treatment -- not to mention those of captured enemy combattants -- to that of resistance fighters under the Nazi Gestapo or dissenters in the Soviet Union (the latter I infer from "[p]olice [sta]te").
(Update 10/18): For a detailed depiction of Stewart's sway over a crowd of true believers, read Irina's insider, first-person account. JMK says this gal's got a future in media if she wants it!
Hot Air fisks this story: her paralegal gets 24 years, the judge earned his chops during Watergate. Based on Captain's Quarters's take on Stewart's sentence-mitigation strategy, she's a woman who loves terrorists too much. Byron York shows how George Soros funded her defense.
As Lynne Stewart goes to prison, anti-American, al-Qaeda- and Hezbollah-allied Leftists are on the march.

She came to Forham last week - I blogged about it yesterday.
