With Dr. Chesler's permission, posted below is a translation into French of her recently published remarks on the "honor killing" trial of Hasibullah Sadiqi now underway in Ottawa, Canada. For several years, she has applied her expertise in feminism and psychology to help explicate the intractable problems which Muslim immigration, and Islam generally, pose to liberal Western societies. More on Phyllis Chesler here. As a reference, some of her previous remarks on "Le Massacreur de Montréal" -- subject of the recent film Polytechnique -- are attached at the end (in English).
.

From "Psychological Roots of Islamic Rage" (Nancy Kobrin, Ph.D., co-author), The Jewish Press, August 9, 2006; (see also "Open Season on Jewish Women", FrontPage Magazine):
What is important to note is that Gharbi/Lepine blamed women for the considerable crimes of his father, whose culture was Islamic and Algerian.
As Dr. Chesler recounts in her book, The Death of Feminism, in 2001 an angry mob of 300 Algerian men conducted a three-day pogrom against Algerian women in which they tortured, stabbed, mutilated, gang-raped, buried alive and murdered women in Hassi Messaoud.
In Dr. Chesler's 1978 book, About Men, she posited that the paternal abandonment of, and cruelty toward, sons may be a crucial component in mother- and woman-hating. Dr. Nancy Kobrin, in her forthcoming book The Sheik's New Clothers: The Naked Truth About Islamic Suicide Terrorism, suggests that the absolute degradation of Arab and Muslim women by a shame- and honor-society means that sons must perpetually rid themselves of the "contamination" that contact with women represents; and that sons must psychologically abandon their mothers even as they experience abandonment by their mothers. Many such sons are trained to mistrust, police, routinely batter, and sometimes even murder their female relatives.

Every new generation constitutes a wave of savages who must be civilized by their families, schools, and churches.
-- "The Vertical Invasion of the Barbarians," from Robert Bork's
Slouching Towards Gomorrah: Modern Liberalism and American Decline
.
Earlier
this month Gates of Vienna posted video footage of the vicious assault of an unsuspecting white man by a mixed-race group of teenage boys on a
Paris public bus. Gates also blogged a Figaro interview with the victim
[French only], venturing to title it “Paris
Syndrome” [with translation]. The man's attempt to
explain away the incident and to defuse its media attention recalled to Gates the “Stockholm Syndrome” whereby hostages identify with
their keepers. Here are related remarks based on a disturbing
experience I had recently on a Montreal public bus.
It was between 10:00 and 11:00 P.M. on a very dark, very cold, but otherwise calm mid-winter Saturday night on the French-speaking, east side of town. The bus was about three-fourths full. As a group, we were tranquil, a bit subdued even, owing to the hour and the cold and our proper manners. At one stop six to eight teenage boys, aged 14-17, boarded in a tight group. Based on their visible traits, I guessed that they (or their parents) had been born in North Africa, in Morocco, Algeria or Tunisia (also known as the Maghreb). My Algerian-born companion confirmed this based on her recognition of their accents.
From
start to finish, these boys' presence was a complete nuisance,
perhaps a criminal one. They clustered at the front, just behind the
driver's seat, verbally one-upping each other with cackles, shouts,
and taunts. At one point, they belted out quasi-military chants, to the tune ofI
ain't sure, but I been told/Navy wings are made of gold...., in Maghrebi-Jouale
(Jouale: Quebec French). I don't dispute that teenage
boys the world over have a real need to “strut their stuff,”
including in groups and, as appropriate, in public. When I was
their age, I too did nearly the same thing with male friends,
including light-hearted variations on the same refrain from An Officer and a
Gentleman (albeit within a track team's workout discipline).
But it got worse. Some boys accosted
each other with pokes and slaps on the head. Most aggravatingly, one
pounded on the wheel casing as if it were a drum. Another opened a
window to stick his arm and head out (uncovered and in deep-freeze
temperature, with no regard whatsoever for nearby passengers). One even separated himself from the group to take a seat,
surprisingly capable of embarrassment. Or maybe just fatigue. After the longest 15
minutes in my recent memory, they tumbled, as one, off the bus at
some stop.
Had their conduct been criminal? Possibly. If so,
they had disturbed the peace and, perhaps, interfered with the
driver's safe operation of the bus. I have no problem with letting
“boys be boys." What I have a problem with is boys being boys
in a way that will never lead them to becoming responsible men. One
of these ways is when boys are a nuisance, a disturbance, and an
endangerment to public transport – to the vehicle, the operator,
the passengers, and of course to themselves.
* * *
May
all of the above be a point of departure, not some hand-wringing,
irresponsible “conclusion.”
The point of departure is that
for a quarter of an hour this Maghrebi mini-mob entirely dominated
the environment of the bus, and no one made a
peep or lifted a finger to intervene. Remarkably, sadly, the one with the most authority
to do so – the driver – did nothing. In Oakland, California I
have seen (African-American) drivers of public buses – men and
women who know better than to tolerate such behavior – pull over,
halt the bus, and announce that they won't budge until disrupting
(African-American) teens either stop or get off. Guess what? It
works. Oh, and did I say that the Montreal bus driver was white? If
you had guessed that, you were right (not necessarily white, and
certainly not racist).
As far as I could tell, none of these
North African teens were drunk or high. Their deliberate behavior was
as self-conscious as it was anti-social. “Root causes” are a
total failure of family, school, civic, peer (and, if applicable,
mosque or church) pressure on the boys to conduct themselves decently
in public. I have to wonder, however, whether there is a solution?
Because from the driver and the passengers (myself included) none was
forthcoming.
Sitting at arm's length, I kept my eyes on them
the whole time, prepared to stand up and encourage others to do so,
should they have picked on anyone outside their group. (Half the
passengers were middle-aged or older.) Admittedly, I shrank
from doing what I believed, still believe, was right: to push past
them and demand that the driver assert his authority (as some of his
Oakland colleagues do). The fact is, these boys were
intimidating. As we saw recently in Paris, anything can happen in
such a situation. Or rather, as we saw recently reported in
Paris – because this stuff goes on every day in European and North
American cities that host North African immigrant populations.
The
issue is one of authority,
in its abstract sense and its real manifestations. Specifically, it
is the failure by everyone concerned to instill, to assert, to abide
by authority. That the situation didn't further break down or
escalate this time was due to the whimsy of those teens only,
not to any demonstrated capacity or virtue on the part of the mostly
native-born, mostly-ethnically-white Montrealers. It is a situation
of neglect and impotence on many levels that – for lack of
unshakable assertions of authority – invites aggravation
and aggression with no end in sight.
It's Paris Syndrome, once removed. And it's ongoing in a city near you.

Fabrice de Pierrebourg's book profiling fanatic, violent jihadist networks in North America's premier francophone city appeared last year. Currently available only in French, it's received a few notices in English, including at Canada's The Hour and the blog Covenant Zone.
From the former:
In the book, he profiles 20 of the 30 so-called
suspects, some of whom he has met and interviewed, and others whose
lives he has pieced together using documents obtained via Access to
Information laws and other sources. He told the Journal that "Montreal
is a harbour, a logistic base to plan, prepare and to finance terrorist
attacks."
And the latter:
The author has also succeeded in meeting the alarming persons living in Montreal. Among them: Fateh Kamel, presumed overseer of Ahmed Ressam many years ago. Kamel had played a “central role in the wave of terrorist acts” in France during the 1990s, according to CSIS. He had been described as an “executive in international terror […] whose boss was none other than Osama ben Laden.” Back in Montreal after leaving prison in France in 2005, the man condemned for terrorist acts earns his living at the wheel of a taxi, without being recognized by his Montreal clients.
Runagates Club weighs in on Canadian willed ignorance:
Here we now have a Canadian expeditionary force in Afghanistan, fighting the Taliban and hunting the militant Sunni terror group Al Qaeda, and our news editors decide the first book of 2007 discussing Muslim terrorists in Canada is NOT worthy of attention? Isn't the taint of widespread journalistic appeasement too often the response to the bared terrorist blade?

It's always a pleasure to see Arabs in Minnesota. And I want to tell you something, with G-d's help, we're going to give you a lot of your cousins to come here, too.
Bear in mind that when they clapped they were clapping for the murder of three Jews.

Islamic terror, an equal opportunity killer, is also an equal opportunity recruiter. And American medical schools are extending high-quality professional training and credentials to these killers and recruiters. Debbie Schlussel deserves a headline for this one (her post has several links and images):
Houssein Zorkot was caught, Sunday, in Dearbornistan's Hemlock park, armed with an
AK-47 assault rifle and dressed in black clothing with camouflage paint
covering his face. He was apparently training for some sort of
terrorist attack on behalf of Hezbollah and its various Shi'ite
splinter groups in Lebanon, all of whose "martyrs" he honors on his
website....
[Zorkot's web site] is a pro-Hezbollah, pan-jihadist recruitment site for Jabal Amel and
Zrarieh (apparently two Hezbollah offshoots), based right here on our
soil and in my backyard.
Reminds me why I despise nerds who escape into comic books and science fiction to simulate adventure and heroism. The opportunity for the real thing is right here under our noses -- with evil enemies named "Zorkot."
Were stories like Zorkot's featured in Newsweek's cover story this past summer, "Islam in America"...? See "al-Newsweek" for critical takes.
Soon it will be revealed: Muslim Terrorist MDs Born in the USA.

Earlier this week Cinnamon Stillwell kindly introduced me to Lee Kaplan (right). It was an honor to meet Lee who, as national Director of the pro-Israel non-profit DAFKA and a leading activist at Stop the ISM, is one of Israel's most intrepid defenders in America. He routinely attends and, as necessary, infiltrates the rallies and recruitment sessions of the most intransigent "pro-Palestinian" organizations on U.S. soil. (Click here for an extensive online bibliography of Lee's writing.) A significant number of these organization operate or are based on certain multicultural indoctrination facilities, also known as elite American college campuses.
In retaliation for his dedicated reportage, a little over a year ago he became the target of personal harassment and online libel by a UC Berkeley student apologist for Palestinian terror, Yaman Salahi. With the campus administration washing its hands of the affair, Lee pushed back using other levers of the system. Recently he was rewarded for his steadfast and dignified efforts with a court judgment against Salahi, one which includes monetary damages.
Here's an excerpt from Lee's own account of his ordeal, "My Day In Court":
The Cal student at Berkeley took great glee in what he had done. In detail, he explained on his site how he had gone about smearing my reputation, something that would later become evidence in court. He also began interlinking over with other web blogs set up by other students and other people active in the ISM and even began sending out whatever false accusations he could to web sources, citing himself anonymously as a viable news source. Incredibly, many of the other sites printed his calumny. Even worse, one of his affiliates began running pornographic images of homosexual and other sex scenes and cartoons with my head photoshopped onto the bodies. In one, I was a voyeur in a woman’s bathroom with an Israeli flag on the wall. In another, my head was blown off and death threats were included. (It should be noted these are people who declare themselves “peace activists” and lovers of humanity. Of course, such people are also frequent defenders of terrorists and totalitarians overseas.)
Mazal tov, Lee! Your victory is a victory for all of us who care about Israel and about journalistic and academic freedom. We are forever in your debt.
Please go read the whole account of this cutting-edge tale of where freedom-loving journalism confronts the Amerabian jihad.

This from midtown Manhattan, Pamela waxes lionesshearted in "Waiting for Abu Godot":
I clock the war. It's what I do. I watch, I report and observe - I tell you when it's an observation. I distinguish between the actual news and my opinion. Something the mainstream media stopped doing long ago. They abdicated their role as public servant in delivering the news.... The crisis of our time is so pressing, so imminent, it has seized me. To my very core. I walk the streets of New York and feel as if I am walking the garden of the Finzi-Continis....
When I saw The Garden of the Finzi-Continis the first thing I thought of were those trimmed, magisterial residences of Fifth and Park Avenues and East End Avenues. Including, for that matter, Gracie Mansion.
How well I remember Manhattan's Upper East Side on hot summer weekends when the foot and street traffic dips 30+% because residents have skirted off to their second homes, time shares, etc. on the Island, in Rochester or Putnam County, on MV (that's Martha's Vineyard, for those not in the know) and beyond. At 4:00PM on a Saturday afternoon on Madison Avenue anywhere above 72nd St. you don't just hear a pin drop -- you see it drop.
How shady was my concrete canyon! [*]

Without a doubt the internet is the single-most important venue for the radicalization of Islamic youth.
-- Brigadier General John Custer (U.S. Army), who appears in the online news story "Jihad.com"
.
Yahoo! News seems to be catching up with the jihad, or rather with the counter-jihad. Click over to all the clips: "Terror online", "Terrorist 007", "Online Defeat", "Dangerous Games", etc. while they're still available. In "Terror Chat Room", Rita Katz has to work at a secret location -- in professional hiding -- to track what could be called "Myspace for terrorists." In "Internet Warrior", Aaron Weisberg disrupts their sites, calling himself "a rodeo clown." Wake up, Aaron, you're not a clown, you're a mensch!
In "Terrorspeak", General Custer warns: As this process matures you'll start to see the jihadist internet in English ... so that more and more Westerners can participate.
One jihadist recruiter preaches, in English: Our words are dead until we give them life with our blood.
Curious, isn't it, Gentle Reader, not that two of the leading counter-jihadists are patently Jewish, but that Yahoo! and 60 Minutes gloss over the obvious fact that they are.

"Man Blows Himself up in Internet Cafe"
-- by John Thorne (AP) Mon Mar 12, 7:37 PM EST
CASABLANCA, Morocco - A man with explosives hidden on his body blew himself up in an Internet cafe after the owners prevented him from looking at terror Web sites, the Interior Ministry said Monday.
The man was killed and four people were injured in the Sunday night blast in a Casablanca slum, said ministry spokesman Abderrahman Achour. One of the wounded was the dead man's companion, who was hospitalized with burns and a throat injury.
Both men were carrying explosives. But officials believe the
cybercafe may not have been their target and that the explosion was an
accident ....
[What and Who were they targeting for?]
Moroccan police have been cracking down on suspected Islamist
extremists since suicide bombings in Casablanca in 2003 killed 45
people and woke the North African kingdom to the threat of Islamic
terrorism.
The dead man was identified as Abdelftah Raidi, who was convicted of
suspected terror links and sentenced to five years in prison before
being pardoned in 2005.... [Pardoned? By whom? Why?]

On today's Vent Daveed Gartenstein-Ross speaks candidly with Michelle Malkin about his memoir, My Year Inside Radical Islam. He speaks about his religious (de)formation as a result of being raised in a hippie-ish, "sort of Unitarian Jew[ish]" household; the ceremony of his conversion to Islam; his wrenching participation in undermining his own ability to think critically within the faith; and about the mortal risks of Muslim apostasy.
What a tale. Frankly, his experience recalls many aspects of what I knew during my time in the Marxist International Workers Party cult. Fundamentalist Islam, Communism, and cults clearly share many traits. Let's hope his book emboldens many more Daveeds to step forward, both those who will resolve to quit Islam and those who will resolve to take a shot at reforming it.

From the review of a 300-page study of Islam's (growing) presence in America, which appears in the current issue of Commentary:
By spending months with his subjects, Barrett hoped to bring them alive, with all their virtues, vices, foibles, and hopes. As he writes, he wanted to make them “real and three-dimensional, as opposed to . . . merely talking points or op-ed pieces.” In this, he succeeds admirably. But his journalistic approach to American Islam in general has its distinct limitations.

Gates of Vienna reports and comments on the San Jose Mercury News 's in-depth coverage of Khadijah Ghafur's peculiar pecuniary sleights of hand -- which as of last year landed her in prison for supporting jihad in central Asia.
Curious to note is that Ms. Ghafur -- f/k/a Deanna Moton -- had founded an Islamic enclave in rural California, "Baladullah" ("City of God") which, Although the nearest neighbor was miles away, the SJMN reports, the property was surrounded by a fence and occasionally guarded by young men with guns.
Also significant is that the former Ms. Moton had come of age in Alabama during the Civil Rights Movement. This period, often sentimentally portrayed as a time of coming together for a common good (as in the movie Mississippi Burning), was also a time of coming apart, including within "the movement." The Black Panther Party was, in spirit, founded in Alabama during this time. It was the era in which Stokely Carmichael (the later Kwame Toure) first vented the chant, Black Power! and H. Rap Brown (the later convicted cop-killer Jamil Al-Amin) let loose his incendiary slogan, Burn, baby, burn!
Her brother, while working alongside a white volunteer, had survived a KKK attack that left the white fellow-activist dead. Such a sacrifice for a better America did not, apparently, leave a decisive impression on the then-Ms. Moton. Instead a longing for separatism set in in her soul. As with Carmichael and Brown, what otherwise would have taken shape as a distinctly racial separatism became a newfound, transcendent Islamic creed and devotion. She went on to marry Abdullah Baqi (f/k/a James Jennings). Law enforcement authorities, the SJMN reports, describe him as a West Coast leader of Jamaat ul-Fuqra, a movement led by Gilani, whose U.S. and Canadian followers were linked to a variety of financial crimes, bombings and killings in the 1980s and early 1990s.
Interesting to note, too, is that George Wallace (left), Alabama's one-time segregationist (and Democratic) governor -- best known for declaring Segregation today, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever! -- eventually became a born-again Christian and apologized for the outdated, noxious views that had characterized his early terms. During his final term as Alabama governor he in fact appointed a record number of blacks to positions in government. But such genuinely progressive lessons in American history are lost on individuals like Ms. Gharfur.

Daniel Pipes was shouted down the other day (temporarily) by fanatically anti-free-speech, anti-intellectual, anti-Zionist Arab students at the University of California at Irvine. Atlas blogs it here. An attendee blogs it here. Video of it here.
This is the exact same kind of mob tactic that has distinguished the University of California and other American campuses for years now, even decades. The other day I referred to one instance from the 2000 commencement ceremony at Berkeley when Secretary of State Madeleine Albright -- representing the Clinton, not Bush, Administration -- was shouted down during a mass action instigated by a Palestinian student. To this day the student, who also was delivering the valedictorian address, is featured glowingly on the university's web site with nary a mention of the disgrace she brought on herself, the secretary of state, and the university.
Intimidation. Antisemitism. A university's seal of approval -- that's Arab mob rule in America today.

From "Identity and Migration," in the February 2007 American Prospect:
The radical Islamist ideology that has motivated terror attacks over
the past decade must be seen in large measure as a manifestation of
modern identity politics rather than of traditional Muslim culture. As
such, it is familiar to us from earlier political movements. The fact
that it is modern does not make it less dangerous, but it helps to
clarify the problem and its possible solutions.

Should have seen this one coming: Major restaurant chains are now serving up their fare according to Muslim dietary (i.e., Halal) law. Right Truth blogs it, with dozens of links for further reading.
A community providing itself certain foodstuffs in accordance its religion is one thing. For example, it's a joy to see "glatt" and "kosher" on the signage of Jewish markets. I mean, I still have, from the Jewish bakery in Paris in which I bought it, the wax paper in which a savory roast chicken was wrapped up for me. Strictement cachère, it reads, in blue letters on the translucent paper, and with a happy cow's head to boot!
Revolutionizing society, however, -- restaurants, prison kitchens ... What next? Public school cafeterias? -- is something else altogether. For while the dietary differences between kosher and halal are slight, the societal differences between them are huge.
Would I be willing to taste a halalburger?, you might ask. Sure -- but only if you hold the umma!

In his latest post JMK notes President Thomas Jefferson's confrontation with Islamic piracy (a/k/a the Barbary Wars) during the republic's earliest years. This real history of Thomas Jefferson's legacy runs contrary to Congressman's Keith Ellison's (D-MN) fantastic claim of a place for Islam in the American body politic, symbolized by his present-day pirating of Jefferson's Koran for his swearing in ceremony.

(The above JMK is not this JMK but instead the New York firefighter and HazMat specialist behind Workingclass Conservative. Nice to meet ya, JMK! I'm sure the blogosphere is big enough for the both of us. For what it's worth, Tottenville H.S. always ran circles around my school in track meets.)

* Update: "Ho Chi Minh was hailed as a 'Jeffersonian Democrat'" *
Keith Ellison is about to swear an oath to uphold (and, as his critics (including this one), are concerned, subvert) the Constitution of the United States of America on a Koran belonging to the Library of Congress that at one time had belonged to Thomas Jefferson. JMK finds this morally alarming, although not, in the Amerabian realpolitik sense, surprising. Anyone who wouldn't have expected such a provocative stunt has, in fact, been extremely naive.
In a gross departure from its kid-gloves mainstream news coverage, this brings to mind the Black Panther Party's march on Sacramento while brandishing rifles and asserting its right "to self-defense" in the name of African-American communities (but really in the name of a Marxist-Leninist, revolutionary agenda with intended consequences for all Americans). For in at least once sense, there is not much difference between bringing a Koran to the nation's capital in the name of "tolerance" and the Black Panthers' (or rather, Black Gangsters') bringing rifles to a state capital in the name of "the right to bear arms." Each is a sacred American principles being invoked as the crest of a subversive, and mightily dangerous, wave crashing against our terra republica.
Of course, Ellison's provocation is the harbinger of a spirited -- perhaps the most spirited -- debate yet to ensue about the places Islam is entitled, and not entitled to, in American society. The most prominent critics of the mainstreaming of Islam include talk radio host and author Dennis Prager and Congressman Virgil Goode (R-VA); its advocates include professor Juan Cole. (All three links are must reads, IMHO.) Our sacred honor, and what constitutes it and what that honor guarantees, are in the balance.
I look forward to diving deeper into the subject in the weeks and months ahead. But for starters, if you want to know how a devout (not what I call a "moderate") Muslim perceives Thomas Jefferson's most famous accomplishment, the Declaration of Independence, just click over to submission-dot-org: [T]he Declaration of Independence of the USA was in reality no more than a discovery of all the major and basic principles given in the Quran.
This is the kind of overarching worldview we must engage. Does such a primordial, religiously superstitious, and anti-intellectual worldview have anything more than a marginal place in the most modern, most revolutionizing -- and at the same time most stabilizing -- nation in human history, The United States of America? These and other questions beg to be asked and answered.
JMK places no store in the fact the the incoming Congressman will be using a Koran that had once belonged to Thomas Jefferson. Big deal. Keith Ellison is not making history -- he is making trivia. I've got a two-volume set of the Marquis de Sade's works. If a snuff movie "director" were to use my de Sade as a prop in one of his flicks, would that serve as a JMK imprimatur to his mutilating and murderously pornographic vision? Of course not! I have a white supremacist pamphlet, printed in Texas in the 1960s, denouncing in great and alleging detail the "world Zionist conspiracy." If a German neo-Nazi or Mahmoud Ahmedinejad were to recite from my "Zionist conspiracy" pamphlet in a YouTube video, would JMK permit either to also assert that JMK is a proto-Nazi? Again, of course not!
We have a long way to go, Gentle Reader, and a lot to do....
Something to think about: a copycat Panther demonstration of force as party members display their rifles outside the state capitol in Olympia, Washington.

Where next will the Koran be asserted as belonging to the original American national fabric?

This is at the top of Debbie Schlussel's page today, as it is mine:
Pauline Klemmer, a passenger on a US Airways flight from which six suspicious Muslims were removed last month, provides essential details and raises elementary questions, which the MSM has failed to pursue. For example:
Their seating arrangement was very unusual and it raised a red flag to the crew. Only one of the 6 sat in first class, with the telephone, although they [had all checked in] together. The rest sat in coach. The second one sat in the first row of coach in front of me; I think another mid way back in the plane and the rest in the very rear of the plane. They were there early enough to get seats together but chose to spread out. (all emphases in the original)
Uber-props to Ms. Klemmer! Her entire letter (it's 2,000+ words) reads as if she has seen and understood United 93. That film -- with "bruising brilliance and healing compassion" -- portrays step-by-step how on 9/11 four fanatic Muslim men comandeered the flight that crashed in Pennsylvania. If there are to be no more 9/11's and no more United 93's, then we need more Pauline Klemmers.

Mike Gallagher interviews Ibrahim Hooper (an American convert to Islam, who was born Doug Hooper) of the Council on American-Islamic Relations regarding certain recent, violent events related to Islam. It takes just seven minutes to get a taste of one of Islam's most public voices in America.

. . . by urging him to fight for the release and safety of profoundly principled and courageous Bangladeshi journalist Salah Choudhury.
.
Mr. Choudhury is a Muslim who, along with his family, has endured extraordinary persecution for the "crime" (from the totalitarian Islamic worldview) of speaking out against Islamic terrorism and of advocating normalization of ties to Israel. For these, he now faces the death penalty.
.
Last week Keith Ellison became the first Muslim to be elected to the House of Representatives, from Minnesota's 5th C.D. His candidacy drew national attention and scrutiny, in part because of his ties -- past and/or present -- to the notorious Nation of Islam, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, and even Hamas. Congressman-elect Mr. Ellison is a self-identified progressive; as he moves across the national stage now and in the coming weeks, JMK wonders: What vision of "progress" will he put forward?
JMK thinks Keith Ellison has a sacred responsibility to fight for persecuted Muslims like Salah Choudhury, sacred not just in terms of religion but in terms of our American creed, which in these times includes a free press, political pluralism, and the Bush Doctrine of support for those with us and opposition to those against us in the war on Islamic terror. The Congressman-elect has an opportunity to set a tone now that all Americans of good faith can support. It also just might make the difference in saving Mr. Choudhury's life.
Here is the email I sent out yesterday:
Dear Congressman-elect Ellison,
Congratulations on your
election as America's first Muslim member of Congress. In keeping with
the hope your victory represents for all Americans, I urge you to lend
the weight of your office to freeing Bangladeshi journalist Salah
Choudhury. He faces death for the "crimes" of denouncing Islamic
radicalism and advocating normalized relations between Bangladesh and
Israel. More information about his case is available here.
Mr. Choudhury clearly represents, with courage and conviction, the
values that make America great and that can make other nations great.
Your colleague Rep. Mark Kirk
(R-IL) has already made Mr. Choudhury's release a priority. If you
join him in this fight, it will be a historic way to commence a
historic tenure in Congress.
Sincerely,
JMK
.
Will Keith Ellison let a fellow Muslim be persecuted and killed in the name of Islam?
If you think the answer to that question should be a resounding NO!, then email the Congressman-elect now and tell him why: info@keithellison.org

An astonishing post at The Autonomist blog recounts in detail the racially- and, in a bitter, American twist, Islamically-motivated series of murders -- also known as "The Zebra Murders" -- committed by Nation of Islam members against innocent white residents of San Francisco in 1973 and 1974. I'd heard before of racist murders committed by the Black Panther Party against white sympathizers through the agonizing but dutiful memoirs of David Horowitz, but this new story about the criminal underside of the NOI is breathtaking:
Between October 20, 1973 and April 16, 1974, Jesse Lee Cooks, Larry Green, and Anthony Cornelius Harris, as well as J.C. (aka J.C.X.) Simon and Manuel Moore, murdered at least 15 whites and grievously wounded at least another nine whites in failed murder attempts. In at least one case ("John Doe #169"), the devils kidnapped a homeless white man, took him to Black Self-Help Moving and Storage, the NOI-owned business where all of the above-named killers but Cooks worked, bound and gagged their victim, and began chopping off his body parts while he was still alive.
In addition, according to this post, the NOI recruited an elite West Coast killing squad called the "Death Angels," especially active between 1970 and 1974, which law enforcement officials believe was directly responsible for driving up San Francisco's homicide rate during that decade. Just when I thought it safe to predict that pathological American
fanatics would eventually "copycat" grisly overseas Islamic beheadings,
now I see that the precedent was set long ago -- by racist
African-Americans. I also see that there's yet another reason why San Francisco earned the nickname "Baghdad by the Bay." Fortunately the victims of these murders have received some of the recognition they are due, since a 10th annual commemoration for them was held at City Hall last week.
Many Americans recall that after JFK's assassination Malcom Little (a/k/a Malcolm "X") pontificated with icy and merciless detachment that Kennedy's killing had been a case of "the chickens coming home to roost." Whether Mr. Little -- who just like those white victims (albeit as an apostate from the NOI's infallible "faith") would himself soon be cut down by NOI killers -- was accurate about Kennedy and America is debatable. Given the evil underside of the Nation of Islam, what's not debatable, as his and the murders of these white San Franciscans demonstrate, is that his racy rhetoric about "chickens coming home to roost" hit a lot closer to home than Malcolm Little ever imagined.
